Introduction
The purpose of this specification is to establish basic guidelines for the review of engineering documents (See KZR-DOC-02 for the list of engineering documents created by Kezar Engineering). By using design review procedures, we aim completely remove errors in these documents.
1. Scope
This specification document outlines the requirements and guidelines for the creation of the Bill of Materials (BOM) for mechanical engineering projects. The BOM serves as a comprehensive list of materials, components, and parts required for the design, assembly, and manufacturing of mechanical systems or products.
2. Fields Description
- Item: serial number, this must match the callouts in the drawing.
- Part Name: name of the part for easy identification (e.g. lifting lug, eye bolt, etc.)
- Material Type: type of the raw material (e.g. pipe, plate, bolt, nut, etc.)
- Dimensions: basic dimensions of the part, it can the raw or manufactured dimensions.
- Standard / Code / Specification: document in which governs the design of the part (note related to material, which have it's own field)
- Quantity: total quantity of the part needed to manufacture main par/t
- Weight: unitary weight of the part, the unit type being used (lbs or kg) will be indicated in the Notes.
- Material: material of which the part will be manufactured, add its specification (e.g. SA-240 316, SA-312 TP316, etc.) if any, otherwise use grade (e.g. 316, 304) or simply form (Carbon Steel)
- Notes(s): add the Note letter related to the part, if any (e.g. letter "b" in this field means that Note b) will be applied to it)
- Document Number: BOM number, see KZR-DOC-03 for numbering applied to Kezar Engineering documents.
- Revision: latest revision number of the BOM.
- Date: date of the latest revision of the BOM
- Page: current and total number of pages of the BOM, this field is automatically calculated/updated.
- Notes: all notes related to the BOM must be placed in here. Standard nomes are the total weight of the main part and unit used.
- Revision: serial number of revisions, which must be alphanumeric.
- Description: description of the changes made the BOM when it was revised. First revision, 0, will always have "First issue" in this field.
- Date: date in SI format (dd/mm/yyyy) of the revision.
- Created by: name of the person that created the BOM.
- Reviewed by: name of the person that reviewed the BOM.
- Approved by: name of the person that approved the BOM.
